Line Upon Line

"President Joseph Fielding Smith taught that a testimony “is a convincing knowledge given by revelation to [a person] who humbly seeks the truth.” He said of testimony and the Holy Ghost, who brings that revelation, “Its convincing power is so great that there can be no doubt left in the mind when the Spirit has spoken. It is the only way that a person can truly know that Jesus is the Christ and that his gospel is true.” ~ President Henry B Eyring, A Living Testimony April 2011

My testimony has come line upon line and precept upon precept.  My first experience with the spirit bearing witness was when I was in third grade.  All the Primary children in the Stake that wanted to had been asked to sing in Stake Conference.  The practices were held after school, so I went with my friends to practice as well.   We were singing two songs: "I Am a Child of God" and "I Wonder When He Comes Again."

Our Stake Conferences were held in Idaho Falls in the Civic Auditorium , a large building with a huge stage.  We sat on bleachers set up in a semi-circle on the stage and there must have been over a hundred children in the group.  We stood to sing those two beautiful songs and near the end of the second verse of "I Wonder When He Comes Again",  I felt this strong, overpowering love envelope me and the spirit bore witness to me that the Savior lives and that He loves me. It was such a beautiful, overwhelming and  powerful experience, one that I could never forget   I still love those two songs so much and each time I hear them, it reminds me that the Lord was mindful of a little girl and it was the beginning of my testimony.

I wonder when He comes again,
Will herald angels sing?
Will earth be white with drifted snow,
Or will the world know spring?
I wonder if one star will shine
Far brighter than the rest;
Will daylight stay the whole night through?
Will songbirds leave their nests?
I'm sure he'll call his little ones
Together 'round his knee,
Because he said in days gone by,
"Suffer them to come to me."

I wonder, when he comes again,
Will I be ready there
To look upon his loving face
And join with him in prayer?
Each day I'll try to do his will
And let my light so shine
That others seeing me may seek
For greater light divine.
Then, when that blessed day is here,
He'll love me and he'll say,
"You've served me well, my little child;
Come unto my arms to stay."

  2. That is a sweet memory! I have similar memories of feeling that spirit as I sang songs in primary or at home for Family Home Evening!
